The electric vehicle (EV) is here to stay. There’s little doubt about that. But while the last vestiges of resistance to the technology have crumbled in recent years a significant technical challenge has emerged: where to charge them? Just as early Model A owners had a difficult time finding gas stations so too the pioneers leading the way with their private electric vehicles often find it difficult to locate a public charging station. The solution? Residential EV Charging Station installation from EVdirect. We install more residential EV charging stations than any other company in Ontario and we can install one for you for less than you imagine.
Residential EV Charging Station Installation: The Answer to the Charger Blues
It’s not easy being an EV pioneer primarily because it isn’t always easy to find somewhere to charge up. While the number of public charging stations has been increasing it still falls woefully short of what anyone would consider sufficient. That’s where we come in. We’re EVdirect and we perform residential charger installation for your electric vehicle so that you can free yourself and your car from the curse of the chronically low battery. We feature EV Charging Station from today’s top manufacturers including Bosch, Clipper Creek, efacec, EVBox and more.
What you Need to Know
When it comes to residential EV Charging Station you’ll need to decide which level of charger you need before selecting a brand. There are 4 levels of charger currently available although level 4 is a proprietary charger developed by and intended for Tesla vehicles. If you own a Tesla then your choice is clear. Everyone else who owns an electric vehicle will need to choose between the remaining 3 types of residential EV charger installation.
- Level 1 – A level 1 charger is basically equivalent to plugging your car into a standard household 120 volt AC outlet. It’s the slowest method of recharging your electric vehicle as it will usually take about 12 hours to completely recharge a typical EV battery. On the upside it’s by far the least expensive type of residential EV Charging Station. If you don’t drive your EV very much this may be the perfect solution for you.
- Level 2 – The level 2 charger utilizes a 240 volt AC power source with the result being significantly faster charging times than you’ll get with a level 1 charger. With a level 2 charger it will only take from 3 to 5 hours to fully recharge your battery. It will cost you a bit more to install the level 2 charging station in your garage or on the exterior of your home but the faster charging time will likely make it all worthwhile, especially if you use your EV often.
- Level 3 – The level 3 charger is known in EV circles as the “Fast Charger”. That’s because you can typically achieve a 75-80% charge with one of these 480 volt DC electric chargers in less than 30 minutes. If there’s a downside it’s that they’re clearly the most expensive type of residential EV Charging Station installation and they’re not currently compatible with all types of electric vehicles.
- Level 4 – As we said earlier the 4th level of charger is reserved (as of this writing at least) for Tesla vehicles. This type of charger uses a proprietary plug which precludes its use by other car makes and models. If you have a Tesla though this is the way you’ll want to go and the Tesla Supercharger system (which is a DC system just like the level 3 chargers) will provide you with more than 150 miles worth of charge in under a half hour.
